Numbers

Get a local or toll free business number

Search by area code or for toll free, choose who the number is for, and add it in one click. One number per seat is included.

Every number in CallRoute belongs to one teammate. Calls to that number ring only that person, and they call and text out from it. Owners and admins add numbers from the Numbers page.

What your plan includes

  • Each seat on your plan includes one number, local or toll free. Five seats means five included numbers.
  • Numbers beyond that are extra: $5 a month for local and $8 a month for toll free, paid from your usage wallet.
  • The Add a number card tells you which case you are in, for example how many included numbers you have left.

Add a number

  1. Select Numbers in the sidebar and scroll to Add a number.
  2. Pick a Type: Local or Toll free.
  3. For a local number, type a three digit Area code, for example the one your customers already know.
  4. Optional: in Contains, type digits you want in the number, such as part of a word or a memorable sequence.
  5. In For, pick the teammate this number belongs to. It defaults to you.
  6. Select Search. Matching numbers appear with their city and state.
  7. Select Add next to the one you want. It shows up in your list straight away and can take calls immediately.

If nothing matches, you see No numbers matched. Try another area code. Try a neighboring area code or remove the Contains digits.

After you add it

  • The number appears in the sidebar under Numbers. Pick it there to filter the Inbox, Calls and Analytics to that number.
  • By default, calls ring the owner and go to voicemail if they do not pick up. Select Call handling to add a phone menu, business hours or the AI receptionist.
  • For texting from a local number, US carriers require business texting registration. Until it is approved, a text can fail with a note saying so. A toll free number needs to be verified before it can text.

Release a number you no longer need

Only the owner can release a number. Select Release next to it and confirm. Callers can no longer reach you on it, and you may not be able to get it back, so release a number only when you are sure. A number that is still moving in from another provider cannot be released; cancel the transfer instead.
